The DAAD Study Scholarship for Master's is one of the most valuable and most accessible scholarships for Afghan students — covering all academic disciplines. Here is everything you need to apply for the 2027/28 cycle.
What Is This Scholarship?
The DAAD Study Scholarship for Master Studies is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and administered by DAAD. It enables international students to complete a full Master's degree at a German university — or to spend one year studying in Germany as part of a Master's programme at their home university.
Note for art and architecture students: DAAD has separate scholarship programmes for Architecture, Fine Art/Design/Film, Performing Art, and Music. This programme covers all other disciplines.
What Can Be Funded?
The scholarship covers either:
- A complete Master's degree at a state or state-recognised university in Germany, or
- One year of study in Germany as part of a Master's you are completing at your home university — provided the credits earned in Germany are recognised by your home institution
Important: Funding is not possible for a Master's programme already started in Germany. The scholarship is only for programmes beginning in Winter Semester 2027/28.

Monthly stipend: €992

- Annual study allowance of €460
- Travel allowance (upon separate application)

Language support:
- Online German language course fees paid after receiving the Scholarship Award Letter
- German language course before studies begin (2, 4, or 6 months) — compulsory if your programme is taught in German
- Allowance for a personally chosen German course during the scholarship period
